Alaska is doing a good job of keeping me from social media and the internet, can’t really feel too bad about that. I’m a little late on this post on our Airbnb rental though, approximately 3 months, but better late than never, right?
I won a giveaway led by Alexandria Drake of A Modern Girl’s Travels for a $250 Airbnb gift card during the spring. Knowing I had a month long road trip coming up from Oklahoma to Alaska, I figured I’d just save it for the right time when my travel partner Ciarra and I could use a comfortable escape from van life.
We ended up finding the perfect little creek side log cabin built in the 1930s in Rhododendron, OR. Check it out on Airbnb, here.
A girl friend from Eugene met up with us to cook dinner and enjoy wine with us in this cozy little cabin. There was a hot tub by the creek for us to lounge in and gaze at the stars for hours. And a fireplace for us to cuddle up around afterwards.
It was perfect. We only had our Airbnb for one night, but it was just the bit of comfort we needed. I even had time for an epic morning bath with coffee and book in hand in the vintage free standing bathtub with the window open and the morning breeze spilling in. Tell me what more could one ask for?
Living out of a van is not always glamorous. Okay, it’s never really ‘glamorous’. But sometimes it drives me nuts. Like when I have to pee in the middle of the night and I’m parked in a Wal Mart parking lot because it’s the only place we could find that seemed safe and we knew we wouldn’t get in trouble for.. Or like when I want to shower. Or ya know, cook a meal, do laundry, etc. There’s a lot of give and take. And however much I love the minimal commitment, low cost, and freedom of van life, I still appreciate the hell out of the elements of a cozy home.
So, thank you again Alex and everyone else involved with the #AMGirlsTravels giveaway. It was much appreciated and enjoyed so very much. XO
